Live Sessions

Live Sessions

Live Sessions are our answer for managing all kinds of learning events. From a simple training sessions to complex activities that span over multiple days all of them can be organized from Nifty.

How it works

At the most basic level, a live session is a course that can have a date and a specific location, be it virtual or physical. To that foundation we can add different elements like attendees, trainers or costs to cover different aspects from the lifecycle of a session.

The Course Template

Given that a course can be thought of as a template for a session we will first explore what defines this type of content in Nifty. The main purpose of a course is to provide specific details that will influence how a live session can be managed. It holds information that covers the following topics:

  • The type of event that will take place: In Class, Virtual Class, Conference or Virtual Conference
  • The duration of an event
  • The course capacity, how many learners can be accepted and other logistical requirements
  • What approval flow should be used for learner registration
  • Other details like custom descriptions, thumbnails and prework

When you create a session you will first have to select the course that will be used as a template. All the properties that we mentioned above are also present in a live session and they will be populated with values inherited from the course.

The Session Lifecycle

Each live session has a status that signals its state. The significance of each status is relative to the session type. For example an inclass session might be in PROCESSING because you still need to book a room but that is not a condition that applies to a virtual session. Statuses can change automatically, based on different workflows or through manual intervention.

StatusDescription
DRAFTInitial status of a newly created session.
PROCESSINGSession is waiting for delivery confirmation from trainers or the venue is still not booked
READYThe session can accept registration requests from learners
COMPLETEDDelivery was completed and other follow up tasks have been done
CANCELEDSession that no longer can take place

Managing Sessions

There are two different places where you directly operate on live sessions, the Live Sessions Activity Page and the Live Session View Page. Each of those pages cover different goals in your learning admin workflow.

The Live Sessions Activity Page

Under Live Sessions tab your activities are listed in a table like format giving you a high level overview of what is going on. Here you will find a list with all your previously created sessions. You can search for specific events using the Filter Bar and perform various actions from the row or table menu.

The Live Session View Page

From the Live Sessions Table, if you click on the session name you will end up on the Live Session View Page. This page is your main command center for working on a session. From here you can send emails to learners, adjust the automated actions or check the feedback from that session. It is designed to signal aspects that need manual intervention with the help of status flags and also keep you informed about everything that has happened through the Activity Log. The information is structured into different cards that allow you to view and interact with all components of a live session.
